The project at Hufthamar ferry terminal, just south of Bergen, was launched to optimize energy consumption and reduce light pollution while maintaining safety for travelers.
– The installation process was remarkably smooth. The only real challenge was mounting the Citygrid On pole sensor at eight meters, but even that was manageable, says Henrik Berg, smart lighting adviser at Fagerhult Norway.
Vestland County Municipality and the installer sought a smart lighting solution that would automatically adjust based on traffic intensity.
– By implementing an intelligent lighting control system, we eliminate unnecessary energy consumption. Many residents in the surrounding villages do not usually see the stars, so reducing excess lighting has a meaningful impact, says Berg.
A total of 230 Fagerhult luminaires equipped with Citygrid technology were installed. These automatically dim down when no movement is detected, ensuring minimal energy use while keeping the area well-lit when necessary.
– Energy efficiency was a key priority for the municipality. Thanks to the online portal, they have complete overview and can easily make adjustments, says Berg.
By implementing smart control and monitoring solutions from Citygrid, the municipality has been able to substantially reduce energy consumption while keeping the ferry terminal well-lit and secure. Additionally, the client can access operational data through an online portal, eliminating the need to visit the terminals in person.
