Case of Habo

Imagine a trail where lights brighten as you approach. Fagerhult Group and Habo Municipality have transformed it into a showcase of smart lighting, blending innovation with sustainability while protecting local wildlife.

About the project

Fagerhult Group reached out to Habo Municipality and proposed a partnership to modernize the lighting along the illuminated trail outside the company’s premises. The goal was to transform the trail into a showroom and testing ground for Citygrid’s lighting control system. According to Mattias Svedjefall, Head of Leisure and Culture at Habo Municipality, the old fixtures, which had been in place for over 16 years, were due for replacement.

– This is the best kind of collaboration. It was fantastic that we could solve it together. The new lights brighten as you approach, creating a really cool and modern atmosphere, says Mattias Svedjefall.

In addition to showcasing Citygrid’s smart system, the project also includes new luminaires from leading manufacturers such as Ateljé Lyktan, Fagerhult, We-ef, and iGuzzini. This variety of high-quality fixtures helps highlight innovation and sustainable design. Lighting plays a crucial role in creating safe outdoor environments during dark hours, but it also presents challenges in balancing the needs of nature. Achieving the right balance between light and darkness is a key aspect of the municipality’s efforts toward sustainability.

– It’s sensitive to illuminate the area around the river in the nature reserve, as it can affect both fish and other wildlife. That’s why the fixtures in that area are lower, and the lighting can be dimmed to 10 % when no one is around, explains Mattias.

Despite challenging conditions during installation, including rain and steep slopes, the process went smoothly.

– The installation hasn’t been an issue at all; it’s gone very well, Svedjefall continues.

One of the major advantages of Citygrid’s smart lighting system is that the municipality can now track the number of people passing through the area.

– We’re curious about how many people move through the area. The more traffic, the more wear and tear on the equipment. This system helps us plan maintenance and investments more efficiently, leading to better resource allocation. We are few people handling many tasks, he says.

Another significant benefit of the system is its reduced impact on wildlife and nature.

– Minimizing disturbances to the natural environment is very positive, concludes Svedjefall.

”Citygrid’s smart lighting system not only helps reduce the environmental impact, but also allows us to plan maintenance and investments more efficiently, ensuring better use of our resources”
